Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Sylvia Yee has always expressed an interest in classical music. A few years ago, she changed her undergraduate studies from kinesiology to piano, an instrument she had stopped playing in secondary school. In 2001, she launched the annual CIBC Youth Piano Competition and gained entrepreneurship experience while working with local musicians, small businesses, and young artists. In 2008, she completed her Bachelor of Music at the University of Victoria, Canada, studying with May-Ling Kwok. Her former teachers include Kenneth Broadway, Ian Parker, Edward Parker, and Alyssa Wang. She has participated in masterclasses with Anton Kuerti, Jean Saulnier, and Kevin Fitzgerald. Sylvia strongly believes that a career in music, as in other fields, can be earned with hard work and determination. Currently, Sylvia is a postgraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Hamish Milne. She also teaches a small class of young professionals in London and hopes her experiences will inspire prospective pianists of all ages and levels.
