ABOUT THE ARTISTS

LEONID LEVIN, VIOLIN

"Mr. Levin’s tone is sonorous; his style is essentially assertive... Bloch's "Nigun" is an outburst of passionate lamentation. Mr. Levin clearly identified with its rhetorical style and Judaic idiom." (New York Concert Review, April 2008)

Leonid Levin received honors as a violin soloist at the State Moscow Music Gnesins Academy. After immigrating to the U.S., he became concertmaster of the Savannah and Omaha Symphony Orchestras and was a winner at the International Violin Competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A former member of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, he performed under the baton of great guest conductors Eugene Ormandy, Robert Shaw, and Curt Mazur.

Mr. Levin also appeared as guest concertmaster of the Americas Symphony (Florida). As first violinist of the Elysium String Quartet, he made his New York Debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. He has given numerous recitals across the U.S. and Europe and has recently released several albums including “Violin Favorites,” “Yesterdays” with violin jazz quartet, and “Ballroom Dreams: Songs by Leonid Levin for Violin Jazz Quartet."
